LO5: Be able to edit cinematic quality footage

The effects used in our final film were effects like dip to black, dip to white. we also used audio effects such as constant power and constant gain we used visual editing like when we showed Ellis's characters flashback or when he is in the bathroom and we change the scene to a red colour every time he looks up.

We filmed our footage with cinematic quality equipment such as the DLSR Camera, and the iPhone 13, using these allowed us to get clear interesting shots that were shot at 24fps at HD quality. We purposely shot in areas that had loud lighting and good acoustics so that the video and audio quality was professional and up to standards of similar products; this proved to be difficult in some scenes. For example, when shooting the first scene of the film some of the shots we're too bright from the sun. This made our attempts at making a low angle shot very difficult as the sky behind the character was way too bright. However, we were able to fix this error in post using vfx as we desaturated the scene and added more blue colours into it, which made the quality of the shot seem more professional. Furthermore, during one scene the wind in the background was awful, which ruined some of the shot as you couldn't hear any of the character. We fixed this in post by editing the audio in the Adobe Audio app, and adding music and other sound effects into the product on premiere pro. This fixed the issue and made our product a lot more professional. We also used dubbing techniques to fix a problem with some audio at the beginning, while it isn't perfectly edited in, it makes the quality of the audio so much clearer and easier to understand.

In most scenes we added a blue tinge to the image to make it look cold and depressing which would give a clear image on how we want to portray this film and how our character is miserable. While filming we would put Toby's character in the light to poetry how he is the good character of our story and we would put Ellis's character in the dark to show his bad ways, we would also show Ellis do bad things such as drugs and armed robbery.

In our first scene our character is a person with a stable mind just not acting correctly due to his personal situations and because of these issues he decides that the best way to sort his issues is by robbing a house, but because of his decision to do so this leads to him going into a coma for 5 months and this causes his mind to fracture making him more evil in every way and this is the narrative theory by 'Pam Cook' cause and effect, this means that because of Ellis's decision to rob that house had a cause and effect.

David Newmans representation theory states that media represents the working class as a problem, now this is true and false in our film because both of our characters are from the working class but only one of them is evil. So this representation theory is a great way to introduce how people with different mindset are no matter in what society they are a part of, we know this because Toby's character is Good person and doesn't do the thing Ellis's character does such as drugs and robbery and that is how our film that is how our film uses David Newmans theory

Jason Mittels theory on how industry uses genre commercial can be used to explain our film this is because our film is a mock/ parody of a gangster esc film it and due this we added some comedic areas. now we did this parody film because we thought it would be a good take on the serious gangsta films in the world but even though this film is a parody it does still dress real world problems such as mental health and drug use in young people and that is why this parody is a good uses of genre because the target audience of our film will mostly be able to relate to our characters situations as they might be in conflict with them selves as they might not know what to do because of the issues going on in their lives.

Steve Neales theory on repetition and difference can be seen in our films this is because of how we use similar editing techniques to other horror/thriller comedy mixes such as scary movie or haunted house such as the VFX in the film such as changing the colours in certain scenes and using different transitions such as dip to black and white, we also included fast cuts and transition and this is quiet popular in thriller films, however we did not include any jump scenes as we didn't think it would fit in with our film as it isn't just a horror genre but a Parody/ Gangster film with aspects of horrors and thrillers, the type of films we parody in this are films like Blue Story and Brotherhood we copy and mock the aspect of the gang life such as knife crime and drug use, and this is why our film is so unique as it uses ideas from many different genres.

When originally planning the film, we thought about casting Adil to be the main character. This would have been to show the racial representation theory by Manuel Alvarado. Playing with the stereotype that people of colour are most likely to be criminals and people similar to our main character. However, due to him getting an injury, he wasn't able to act for our film. Even so we still used the stereotype of a roadman within our film, as we show him wearing black coats and using props such as knifes and burner phones. Plus we used editing techniques such as colour changes and dip to blacks to present the character as dark and dangerous, building tension within the film and between the character and his friend.

The final scene didnt include much post production edits this was because we wanted to make the last scene more emotional as the main character is taking his own life. We made it emotional by using slow moving shots and using quick video clips so it kept changing which help the audience think like the character as he would be processing a lot we made the audience feel the same way. We included the cinematic shots of the sky and the trains this was to add to the scenery and to make it more emotional for the viewers, the only post production we have is at the very end where we have the character taking his own life and the screen cuts to black and then music plays along with the credits.

Overall I believe we did well in post production edits to create a professional looking film, our scenes were shot in loud lighting and acoustic areas so it helped with the professionalism of the film but for some of our scenes this caused an issue such as within the 4th scene in the garden the sun was to bright when we were filming so the camera mans shadow was in the shot meaning we had the change the angle to a low shot but then the actors face was to bright because of the sun so in post production we fixed it with vfx, we desaturated the shot and added more blue colours into the shot. In the first scene the wind was way to loud when we had Ellis's character jumping over the fence so we cut it out in adobe audio and added free wind sound which was at a good audio level.
